The History of Writing (Part Three) Dead Bodies, Invasive People and Frogs
While compiling the various stories, rumors and legends that describe this narrative, there have been things we were told, things valuable to insight, things terrifyingly strange beyond reproach that might offend a reader more than is necessary that we have chosen to omit or at least dramatically abbreviate. It's not exactly a well-kept secret that America has a violent history that our worst, inexplicably, insidiously inhumane leaders have harnessed without provocation to make an overeager voting-majority rabid with fear and self-importance in the cause of sublimating their own fear and self-importance. For as long as death-worship is regarded as the highest form of proclaiming one's personal gratitude to the astonishing and sometimes beguiling whims of life, this insanity will persist.
It took Thalamus Geary close to three (3) months to conduct his search/investigation of the Pacific Northwestern States while Charles Anthony drove eastward with almost no urgency or serious direction at all, switching-out rental-cars every three or four weeks with the counterfeit credit cards--often enough he not be overly-associated with any of them nor risk foolishly inviting attention from any potential hackers running through digital-menus smart to patterns of carefree spending to supplement their UBIs without exerting their snowflake-hearts too much... (It's one of those things said over & over again that we've collectively decided to reduce to a minimum that Thalamus had his way with potentially dozens [cringe to use the word] nerdtrepeneurs. Disappearing people & corpses isn't restricted to organized crime and shady South American dictatorships, you know....)
There's this picture of Geary, common as a meme and almost as amusing, where the self-hating Irish/Spanish descendant with that pulpish, peculiarly unmuscular face housing those hysterically-small black eyes is talking/harassing a streetperson (circa 2029) that's been going around like a can of vegetables missing its label that, honestly, should've been enough to build a Federal Case out of, or at least conduct a thorough background-check before awarding & arming him with non-negotiable impunity. A bit late for that, now, huh?
At any rate...those hotshot, nose-for-the-money local news team reporters came hard & fast to the Fitzgerald/Thompson residence on July second, 2036, clumsy and unstoppable as a bunch of virgins rehearsing a rape orgy amongst themselves, while Samantha answered, squinting through the visitor-portal at the for-hire goons.
She hit the chainlock, unlatched the knob, and asked them what they wanted.
"We want to know about Heaven. They say he's been to Heaven."
'Oh my fucking god.' "No Heaven, here, fellas. Just a couple old people who want to sleep and eat jelly in peace."
One near the back: "We've seen the blood sample. We know he's not a regular man."
"Please? You're making a big deal about nothing. Whatever you heard, my..." she had to search for the new phrase again, "partner has absolutely, positively nothing to say to you. In this life or the next."
"Nonsense!" whined another. "He can't use his modesty as a disguise! The people have a right to know!"
"Then tell them to pick up a fucking book, already!" she informed him.
"There's more in him than in any book. He's seen things. Things valuable to archeologists, anthropologists and YouTubers alike," said the calmest of the bunch. "And you know there'll be police here, soon enough." (To those who've forgotten or chosen not to remember: the Marhaver Incident, which made virtual-hostages of anyone with a television or wifi-ready device for the majority duration of 2032 to the early-spring of 2033, paved the way for public consensus that journalists of any legally-recognized news-company be afforded special permission to conduct independent investigations if they could prove/ascertain an intention for "the general welfare of the Nation." This clearly coincided with that.)
She, in an almost cognitively helpless state, relented to their pathetic demands. She closed to the door, removed the chain, and let those predatory sycophants inside....
When Charles Anthony heard the news, he was at a sportsbar just outside of Louisville, Kentucky, being talked at by some dimwit who repeatedly confused his alleged in-laws with a cat's litterbox that may or may not have been changed at least once a week. So, he only had a few days' drive to get where he knew he wanted to be....
Geary was probably bothering someone in a fatal or non-fatal fashion when Gollander dialed his beloved hitman and instructed him to fly to New York....
And frogs all over the Earth didn't know how lucky they were to be left out of all this shit.
